The Italian Renaissance was a time of artistic re-birth and innovation which has yet to be repeated. One of these innovations was made by the sculptor Lucca della Robbia of Florence. He discovered and perfected the technique of glazing terracotta and applied it to his already famous reliefs of Madonna and Child.
